PREPARED POOLS
LIPID STANDARDIZATION PROGRAM MATERIALS Participation must be arranged through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Laboratory Sciences. For further information contact Dr. William Slazyk wes1@cdc.gov. The Lipid Standardization program (LSP) is a rigorous three-part process designed to ensure that participating laboratories can achieve a standardized level of performance and validate traceability to common reference values for various lipid analytes measured and maintained by the CDC. The standardization process requires laboratories to perform multiple analyses of frozen serum. Lipid reference materials are prepared according to CLSI document C37-A at Solomon Park by pooling units from human donors exhibiting known lipid levels for the analytes of interest and collected to give specific lipid concentrations. The CDC reference materials are provided to the laboratory as unknowns. In order to be considered standardized, a laboratory must complete all three parts of the program for each lipid. To maintain standardization performance, laboratories are monitored through quarterly analyses of selected panels of CDC test samples. The LSP provides standardization services to over 100 laboratories and institutions both domestically and internationally. Laboratories interested in becoming standardized for lipid measurements through this prestigious program should contact Dr. William Slazyk at the CDC Division of Laboratory Sciences wes1@cdc.gov. Further information on the program itself can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/dls/cv.htm. LIPID CERTIFICATION MATERIALS FOR MANUFACTURERS
LIPID CERTIFICATION MATERIALS FOR LABORATORIES Solomon Park can prepare serum samples appropriate for certification for individual laboratories. We can prepare certification materials for outside laboratories at any time, however, these materials are expensive when done in this manner. Laboratories interested in cholesterol certification should contact Missy Thongdeth at the University of Wahsington mthongde@u.washington.edu, and ask to be added to their regular cholesterol certification program that is conducted bi-annually. Samples prepared on an ad lib basis are $200/specimen or $1200.00. Price for analysis costs are separate and must be arranged with the appropriate cholesterol certification center (see list). The price for cholesterol certification through the Univeristy of Washington through their Certification/ReLabs program is $540.00/year for a bi-annual certification which is strongly recommended. |
