Solomon Park Research Laboratories collects and supplies both pooled and individual human urine for in vitro research studies. We collect it fresh from multiple normal donors and immediately frozen for storage via our SPRL-StoTrac™ storage and logistics service.

Note: We can supply fresh pooled human urine on request.

Research Studies: Detecting Fentanyl (the Synthetic Opioid) in Human Urine

Pooled Human Urine from Solomon Park is used in research studies like the study that developed a lateral flow immunoassay or detection device to identify the synthetic opioid fentanyl in human urine.

A lateral flow immunoassay confirms whether an analyte is present or not. The simplest form of a lateral flow immunoassay is a test for a urinary tract infection. The pooled urine from normal donors is used as a measure to determine the control point or line. The line on a test strip is then used to determine whether the patient’s urine is normal or diseased, in the case of a urinary tract infection.

Fentanyl or synthetic opioids are exceptionally toxic substances. Not only is fentanyl used as a treatment for severe pain, similar to morphine but much stronger; however, it is also a common street drug. And it can be easily inhaled, leading to accidental overdoses by law enforcement officials and first responders. Pooled normal human urine samples were purchased to develop the immunoassay that allows medical specialists to quickly detect whether the individual is suffering from an accidental fentanyl overdose or not.

Research Studies: Human Urine as an Immunosorbent  Assay for Early Detection of Mosquito-borne Vectors

A second study using pooled human urine as an immunosorbent assay as an early detection measure for mosquito-borne vectors such as Zika Virus. Not much is known about the Zika Virus. It was first seen in 2015 in northeastern Brazil and caused panic due to its perceived links between the virus and fetal abnormalities. It is also challenging to determine the virus’s characteristics because only 20% of active infections are symptomatic. Additionally, it is misdiagnosed because of the serological cross-reactivity with other viruses like dengue and West Nile Fever.

This study was designed to create an immunosorbent assay to be able to accurately test individuals for the virus to prevent its spread. Normal human pooled urine was used to develop the control markers for the test. With the control point established, the second step was to determine the difference between Zika-infected urine and normal urine.

Saving Lives: The Benefits of Donating Urine Samples

If you are a potential donor willing to donate human urine to Solomon Park so that we can pool and freeze it before it is sent off to form critical parts of research studies that are working towards saving human lives, contact our donor center now to book a donation appointment.
On the other hand, if you are a research scientist that requires pooled human urine, book a consultation with us so we can understand and meet your requirements.
