img_same_day_bloodSame Day Whole Blood Acquisition Services

There is a need for in vitro whole blood samples that are acquired and shipped the same day.

Solomon Park Research Laboratories collects and supplies whole blood products for research and development purposes sourced from our extensive database of qualified donors. All of our donors are screened using the same process used for donor screening for human transfusion blood products.

This screening takes place before the whole blood is drawn. We use the FDA-approved viral marker panel testing and screening with the AABB’s uniform donor history questionnaire (UDHQ). Once the screening is complete, 50mL of whole blood is collected. Once collected the blood (or component parts) are shipped with or without anticoagulants as requested by the client.

At the Solomon Park donor center, to deliver on our Same Day Whole Blood Service, we draw the blood from the donors and ship the fresh blood samples on gel packs during the same day. These blood samples will arrive at the client’s facility on the same day or early the next morning. The distance between Solomon Park Research Labs and the client is the primary driver for the time it takes for a shipment to arrive.

Why Offer Same Day Whole Blood Services?

Blood products, including fresh whole blood extracted from qualified donors, packed and shipped the same day, form an essential part of many medical science research studies,

An example of a research study using whole blood samples, sourced from a research laboratory like Solomon Park Research Labs, is the study that was set up to find a definition of the phrase “fresh blood.” This study evaluated the coagulant properties of whole blood samples that were 31 days old.

Samples of same-day fresh whole blood were shipped from the supplier’s donor center and stored under AABB refrigerated conditions. Further, whole blood samples were drawn from the same donors 24 hours and 48 hours later, and then every three days until day 31 after the original samples were drawn.

It is essential to note that the additional samples were all shipped the same day that they were drawn. They were all stored under rigid AABB refrigerated conditions and their coagulant properties were tested using the following tests: complete blood count, pH, pO2, pCO2, glucose, lactate, TEG, and platelet function by LTA. These additional samples were compared with the original samples that were stored for 31 days to determine a systematic definition of “fresh whole blood.”

Why are studies like this important?

Succinctly stated, determining the boundaries by which whole blood is considered fresh before it must be discarded; thereby, cutting down on wastage.

Do you need fresh whole blood for your research study? Or, are you perhaps a donor wishing to participate in research studies designed to improve human health?
